From the plot (They also show stuff occasionally and surprise themselves)
Cauliflower - Did I amaze myself! I have been trying for years to grow cauliflowers. How did the shops manage it? Well, this was the last time. If they did not work - that 's it. And hey presto - I had six like this and 3 smaller ones. We got three meals out of each using every recipe known to man ... So I will try again, perhaps the spell has been broken
Lettuce Ready for cutting: Salad bowl red and green, and some lollo rosso.
Cut and come again spicy salad leaves under the fleece. Fleece weighed down with pipes (on the left) and stones at either end.
(See 'First Harvest')
Bunch of desert Grapes Desert Grapes
Roots outside, vines in the conservatory. Prune out 'excess' little grapes and leave the rest to grow on. Taste: Lovely and sweet, ready early August.
First harvest of vegetables from the plot First Harvest. Lettuces: Red and Green Salad Bowl, Leaves: Indian Mustard, Giant Red Mustard, Rocket, Basil, Courgettes (Tosca), Patty Pans (Sunburst) (one at the back with the green circle on it, is the usual size - slice to stir fry, or quarter and add to vegetable stews/curry. The smaller ones are added whole. They can all be eaten raw too.)
Recipe Idea: Eat everything young to enjoy the freshly picked natural taste: When the patty pans are very young and tiny they can be sliced, mixed with courgettes, peas and broad beans.
Bring a pan of salted water to the boil, add the vegetables, all cut to roughly the same size and bring back to the boil for 2 minutes. Drain and put into a pretty bowl to show off the lovely colours, add a little olive oil, sprinkle with calendula petals and anchusa flowers. Eat! Yum
Lunabel Melon growing well! The famous melon 'Lunabel'!
About 7 cms long. The blue lid is from a 5lt water bottle. There was one other melon on the plant but it dropped off! (07.06.06)
Lunabel in its net Growing well. Melon now supported in a mandarin orange net. The plant is making three more little melons. (Some people don't have any trouble growing melons so they think we, who are so pleased to get this far, are crazy!!)

Late July: Ate the melon - beautifully fragrant, but quite frankly, not worth the bother. I will use the space and effort for something else.
